5 Great US Companies With the Best Parental Leave Benefits

While certain politicians are clamoring for paid parental leave as a matter of law, some companies haven’t waited for legislation and are already offering generous parental leave benefits. That’s because management at those companies knows that they’re competing for employees just like they’re competing for customers. As a result, they offer generous compensation packages to lure top-notch talent.

Here are 5 great U.S. companies with the best parental leave benefits.

1. Adobe

People looking for jobs for recent college grads should consider Adobe. That’s especially true if they consider family leave benefits to be a high priority.

Just last year, Adobe announced that it would expand its parental leave benefits to 26 weeks of paid maternity leave. That’s half a year.

Primary caregivers also enjoy generous benefits at Adobe. Employees who become parents via foster care, adoption, surrogacy, or childbirth enjoy 16 weeks of paid leave.

2. Amazon

E-commerce giant Amazon also offers its employees excellent family leave benefits.

New moms get four weeks of paid time off before giving birth. After childbirth, they’re entitled to 10 weeks of paid leave. Additionally, new parents can take an additional six weeks, bringing the potential length of paid parental leave to 20 weeks.

Fathers and adoptive parents are entitled to six weeks of paid leave.

3. Facebook

If you work for the most popular social media company in the world, you’re entitled to especially generous benefits when you have an addition to your family.

For starters, Facebook offers 16 weeks of paid adoption, paternity, and maternity leave. Even better, the Facebook corporate culture encourages employees to take “parental leave” as opposed to stigmatizing people who do so.

It gets better. Facebook offers employees $4,000 in so-called “baby cash” whenever a little bundle arrives. There are also designated breast-feeding areas for new moms in the company’s headquarters. Facebook also provides egg-freezing services.

Keep in mind that many of these same benefits are also offered by Instagram, the social media company owned by Facebook.

4. Google

The search engine giant also offers its employees outstanding family leave benefits.

New moms are entitled to 18 weeks of paid maternity leave. Moms who experience complications during pregnancy are entitled to an additional four weeks of paid leave.

Primary caregivers, including surrogates and adoptive parents, are entitled to 12 weeks of “baby-bonding leave.” Employees who are non-primary caregivers are entitled to seven weeks of paid leave.

Google also hands out $500 in “baby bonding bucks.” That’s not as generous as Facebook, but it certainly helps with the expenses of a new child.

5. Microsoft

The company best known for the Windows operating system has recently adopted (no pun intended) generous family leave benefits for company employees.

New moms and dads (through surrogacy, adoption or birth) can receive as much as 12 weeks of paid leave. New moms are entitled to an additional eight weeks.

There are a number of benefits to consider when looking for a new job. Some people look for flexible at home jobs while others search for companies that offer excellent retirement plans. However, if you’re looking for a company with outstanding family leave benefits, consider one of the companies mentioned here.
